Homeschooling became the new normal in 2020 because of a pandemic. Social distancing became a safety protocol. This made a significant impact on educational decisions. Public and private schools revamped their curriculum to accommodate distance learning. Online classes for all ages became the norm. All a lot of parents are all of a sudden interested on what homeschooling is all about.
Some friends started asking what is the difference between homeschooling with a provider and independent homeschooling?
Homeschooling Provider vs. Independent Homeschooling
One of the major differences is accreditation. Accreditation helps you track the grade level of your child. When you enroll with a homeschool provider they help you with the following paper works: issuance of transcript of records; processing of the Learner Reference Number (LRN), a strong support group, among others. With independent homeschooling you take care of all the paper works. Your child also needs to take the Department of Education’s Philippine Educational Placement Test (PEPT) or the Accreditation and Equivalency (A & E ) Exam under the Alternative Learning System (ALS) if you decide to transfer him to a regular school or when it is time to go to college.
Homeschool Provider can be more expensive. Independent Homeschooling is a cheaper option. A homeschool provider gives you many options on what curriculum you choose. With Independent Homeschooling the curriculum depends on you and you are free to choose whatever you like.
