The Power of Words
Have you ever heard of the saying “Sticks and stones can break my bones but words can never hurt me.” I remember saying that to myself when I was an awkward teenager and I know deep down inside that this quote is NOT TRUE. Words can hurt. In fact, later on in life I learned how it can make or break a person.
My mom asked a friend what her secret was for raising successful children. She said that she speaks words of affirmation to her children everyday. She affirms them frequently with these words “You are wonderful…you are beautiful….you are blessed…you are loved.” These were her magic words to her children ever since they were born.
Wow, that really hit me hard. She speaks life over her children and those daily affirmations of love from this mom is the driving force of her children to become better people. Her day-to-day declaration of positivity molded her children to become successful in their careers and personal lives later on in life.
The Water Experiment
Our words can bless or curse. Many of you may have known the Water Experiment by Japanese Scientist Masaro Emoto. He exposed water to different words, pictures, and music. His experiment had interesting results when he observed it under a microscope. Water that is exposed to words that are positive such as “Thank You” produced stunning crystalline structures. On the other hand water that is exposed to negative words produced unappealing formations.
Humans are composed of 60-70% water; as water showed many reactions to words and sounds, it is important to nurture ourselves and others with positive words.
You Are What You Think
We are what we think. Our thoughts will impact our behavior, moods, and feelings. Sometimes we may be unconscious that we may not be speaking life over ourselves, our relationships, plans, jobs, or our businesses.
Choose to speak life
The Bible also tells us how powerful our words are “Words kill, words give life. They are either a poison or a fruit, you choose- Proverbs 18:21”
The Bible pointed out that words can be a poison. When we use it negatively, it can harm us. Or it can be compared to a fruit which can nourish our bodies and can give life. Are you speaking life over yourself, your children, your marriage, your studies, your business, your family members, your future? If not, then it is about time to speak life. Use the power of words to your advantage.
